Iceland Sheepdogs links-1

Since our first discovering these marvelous dogs we have had the privilege to get to know some wonderful people all across the United States and Europe. These folks have shared with me their enthusiasm for the breed as well as their knowledge and support.
I hope you enjoy the photos they've shared with me and visit their websites for even more information about these incredible dogs. Please make your first stop:

The Icelandic Sheepdog Association of America

This is our breed club recognized by the American Kennel Club as the governing body for the Standard in the United States. Look to this site for information about the history and health of the breed, find breeders and puppies available in the United States and see an Icelandic Sheepdog "Family Album".

Maggy Pease and Spurdann & Snotra

Maggy Pease was born and raised in Iceland, she now lives here in the United States with her family and Icelandic Sheepdogs Spurdann and Snotra.

Maggy is an incredible lady who has lent her knowledge of the Icelandic language to many by translating kennel names and suitable puppy names for their registrations. She is for many of us in the Icelandic Sheepdog Association of America, our link to Iceland.

Maggy is also a wonderful photographer and has shared her talent on her site with photos from Iceland and of her ever lovely Snotra and always handsome Spurdann. Just as interesting is the portion of her site where you can HEAR the Icelandic dog names being pronounced! A must visit site for anyone just discovering this fabulous breed!
Wilfred and Ulrikke Olsen of Surtsey Kennel
Living in Ringe, Denmark Wilfred and Ulrikke are award winning breeders of Champion Icelandic Sheepdogs, claiming top honors in Denmark and Europe. Wilfred is the Chairman of the Danish Icelandic Sheepdog Association.

Along with their Icelandic Sheepdogs they also raise a flock of Spelsau sheep. This ancient breed of sheep from Norway have a double coat. The softer inner coat was used for garments while the coaser outer fleece was spun and woven for the Viking long boats sails! I think it's wonderful that these two breeds so essential to the Vikings are still being raised together.

Wilfred and Ulrikke are breeders of the Deep Dark Red Icelandic Sheepdogs and one of my favorite guys Surtsey's Atli! If you can't find an Icelandic Sheepdog to fall in love with here in the United States, then try their site.
Danielle Belanger of Kennel fra Valhalla

Danielle Belanger is a breeder of Icelandic Sheepdogs who lives in Neuvy en Dunois, France with her three Icelandics, Pjetur, Yrja and Soley. She is extremely active with her dogs training them and competing in agility, conformation, obedience and DOG DANCING!

She is has been so generous to share so many fabulous photos of her dogs accomplishments in competitions. All her photos demonstrate the trainability, intelligence, and physical capabilities of the breed, not to mention just how much fun it is to work with them. She is a dedicated owner and breeder of the these wonderful dogs and I am so happy to have the opportunity to have met her. Visit her site to see more incredible photos of these dogs.

Here is Maggy and her girl Snotra.  As you will soon discover Icelandic Sheepdogs in every household are members of the family.  Rarely will you see Icelandics living in kennels and almost all puppies are home raised.  Home raised puppies have been found to be much more people oriented and better able to deal with new situations with ease.

Also check out Maggy's Sweater, that Icelandic Knit is featuring an Icelandic Sheepdog Pattern!

Surtsey's Atli!

How could you not just fall in love with a face like that!  Atli is a Danish, Swedish and International Champion.  He is the 2002 European winner and World winner 2003.  I think he is just amazing.

Danielle and Pjetur competing in Dog Dancing to the music "Singing in the rain".  This is a great way to use advanced obedience training in competition and it looks just plain fun!

Here is Maggy's Spurdann enjoying a run at a local park.  What a handsome guy.

Surtsey's Dana

What a lovely little lady.  Dana started her career as a European Junior winner and World winner in 2002.  She has gone on to become a  Danish, Swedish and International Champion.

Here's Pjetur going over the A-Frame in an agility competition.  Awesome angle it was taken at!  Pjetur is also a 2002 French Champion in conformation.

Here is Maggy's beautiful girl Snotra.  The Icelandic Sheepdog is amazingly athletic, they excell at agility competitions, flyball and as you can see make great disk dogs!

Surtsey's Stina

When your puppies are this cute they have to go on to be champions.  I can't wait to see what wonderful things are in Stina's future.

Yrja running the agility course and just flying over the jump.
